This book even includes information on how to become a groomer in your own rights so that you can even make some money from your enjoyment of dog care. This book is a general guide though; a textbook of sorts for basic dog grooming, care, and making money being a groomer. Do not expect tons of detail because the level of detail needed to make everyone happy would take an eternity to write and take hundreds and hundreds of pages. Instead what you’ll get is an excellent cross section of different breeds of dog and what kinds of cuts and grooming to do on them to achieve the ideal looks.

Also Covers Hand Stripping and Plucking

Ultimate Dog Grooming also focuses on hand stripping and plucking which is something which many other books are missing because they tend to focus more on clipping. However, if you want to achieve the traditional grooming appearance for a show, then knowing how to hand pluck and strip your dog is essential and this book becomes an important guide for people who want to work on their ability to do more plucking and stripping.

Good Allround Dog Grooming Guide

If you are looking for a good, all around guide to dog grooming and different coat cuts, then this book should have a special place in your library. It will easily and quickly pay for itself, especially since in wholesale places like Amazon you can find it for under twenty dollars. If you want to groom your own dog, then this is the book for you.

Comprehensive or not?

There have been some complaints by readers that the book isn’t as comprehensive as it makes itself out to be, but since it does cover over a hundred breeds of dog, there is only so much it can do. Still, some people accuse the author of favoritism – there is more on the poodle breed than many of the other breeds for example. The book also only gives an overview of tools, but nothing on more specifics such as which length of blades to use or what to use where. However, if you are looking for a great overview on dog grooming, this is an excellent book to have at hand.
