I know that I would like a short haired terrier that isn’t too high-energy, but which type of terrier is like that?

terriers ARE high energy, You need to steer towards something other than terrier in an apartment unless you plan on several long walks a day lots of playtime where they can run and jump and well just be a terrier.

A Jack Russel Terrier is best because It’s small. That’s the kind of dog that I have.

Not all terriers have to be exercised for hours each day. Get a Yorkshire Terrier and train it to potty pads. You won’t even have to walk it outside if you don’t want to; and, even if you take it out, it will use the pads if it gets sick in the night or when you are away from home. They are fierce, loyal, and extremely intelligent. A very small dog can get enough exercise inside an apartment, chasing a ball or playing tug of war with a rope toy. They have long hair, but it’s hair instead of fur so there isn’t a shedding problem. You can also have it groomed short to cut down on the brushing.

Terriers generally don’t make good apartment dogs. They can be vey noisy (barky) and have lots and lots of energy. I have never met a laid-back terrier. You’ll need to get this dog out for a good romp at least twice a day or your going to have trouble on your hands.

If you really want to live with a terrier in an apartment, you are really going to have to commit to getting it exercised at least twice a day, in all kinds of weather.
